That’s It! I’m Telling Jesus! ©Dawn Minott

Beforeword: I saw this image and it made me think of a child tattling to a parent when bullied and contrasted it to capture that same childlike honesty of turning to Jesus in times of struggle. Instead of fighting back alone, we can run to Jesus, our ultimate defender and protector. When life gets hard and the enemy presses in, the best response is not retreat—but to tell it to Jesus.

He pushed me down again today,
Right when I bowed my head to pray.
He laughed and snatched my peace away—
That’s it. I’m telling Jesus.

He took my joy, then ran and hid,
Like playground bullies often did.
I’m not as strong as I once thought—
He lied, he mocked, he even fought.
I bit my lip, I clenched my fist,
But grace says vengeance don’t exist.
So guess what now? I’m done with this.
That’s it. I’m telling Jesus.

He stole my lunch of hope and cheer,
Whispered, “You don’t belong here.”
He scribbled fear across my name,
Then ran before I could reclaim
The strength I had in younger days—
He muddied up my sacred praise.
I won’t chase him. No more games.
That’s it. I’m telling Jesus.

I’m tattling with holy tears,
Unpacking all these grown-up fears.
“Jesus,” I’ll say, “he lied again,
He told me I don’t have a friend.
He said my prayers just hit the sky
Then fall like raindrops left to dry.
He told me You’re too busy to see,
And didn’t have the time for me.”

But I know better. I’ve been raised
To trust in You through storm and blaze.
So I’ll report what he has done,
Then hide behind Your risen Son.
And when he sees You standing tall,
He’ll shrink down small, no fight at all.
I’ve had enough of satan’s fuss—
That’s it. I’m telling Jesus.

  2. This sort of reads like a nursery rhyme, but a badass nursery rhyme, nonetheless. I love it. Especially, these lines:

    “I’m tattling with holy tears,
    Unpacking all these grown-up fears.
“Jesus,” I’ll say, “he lied again,
He told me I don’t have a friend.
He said my prayers just hit the sky
Then fall like raindrops left to dry.
He told me You’re too busy to see,
And didn’t have the time for me.”

But I know better. I’ve been raised
To trust in You through storm and blaze.
So I’ll report what he has done,
Then hide behind Your risen Son.
And when he sees You standing tall,
He’ll shrink down small, no fight at all.
I’ve had enough of satan’s fuss—
    That’s it. I’m telling Jesus.”

Way to tackle a poem written from the image above as inspiration, Dawn!

    1. Thanks so much trE!!
I wanted to write it through the eyes of a child running to tattletale so knowing that there’s a nursery-rhyme-feel is a great compliment. This one kind o’ wrote itself cause the image was so graphic.
