God Stopped! Shabbat Shalom ©Dawn Minott

In the beginning,
before the rush, the grind, the deadlines,
before the calendars filled themselves like storm clouds,
before work became a badge of worth,
God stopped.

He shaped the world with words,
spoke light into being,
breathed life into dust,
separated waters,
stretched out the heavens—
and then, He did something radical.
God rested.

Not because He was tired.
Not because He ran out of ideas.
Not because He needed a break before the next big thing.
But because stopping was part of the design.

God stopped working.
Not to be more productive later.
Not to maximize efficiency.
Not to hustle harder tomorrow.
But to see, to savor, to call it good.

And yet, here we are—
worn thin like paper pressed too hard,
calling exhaustion ambition,
calling busyness purpose,
calling depletion devotion.

But what if stopping was sacred?
What if rest wasn’t a luxury, but a law written into our bones?
What if we weren’t made for the race,
but for the rhythm—
work and then cease,
create and then breathe,
to remember that we are not the sum of what we produce?

God stopped working.
And maybe, just maybe,
we should too.

  1. Okay!!! I love this because it is such a great reminder of WHAT WE NEED to do often!

We need rest and it should be MANDATORY for us to have it. Yes to this! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

    1. Yes indeed trE. This is why I love sabbath. 24 hours of no work. Rest and fellowship only. Most Saturdays I go to church then chill or if I stay home it’s still a spirit-filled and chilled day.

      Thanks for stopping by!!
