Sister-Friend Always | Poetry in Conversation with Song ©Dawn Minott

I need a sister
I need a sister-friend
I need a sister-friend for always

Me … alone
You … alone
You … me … we … together

Together we are not easily broken, we’re strong
Just like a rope made of three cords, together we belong

Two of us together are better than one
We can help each other should anything go wrong

And suppose I’m falling … falling … down in pain
Then you — my sister-friend — will help me up again

And if I’m alone when life’s cold winds blow
Then you — my sister-friend — will console me with all you know

And if I’m overpowered, life’s troubles prove too much
Then you — my sister-friend — will extend restoration’s touch

I’ll reach for you, for together we can overcome
When depression … confusion … frustration … temptation come

Yeah, that’s true

Always sisters
Always friends
Always sister-friends
