After days of steady rain, the garden is singing with life—fresh greenery and fragrant blooms everywhere you look! I’m enjoying an incredible lineup: clematis, garden and creeping phlox, bellis, coreopsis, azalea, iris, foxglove, a rainbow of roses, Asiatic lilies, plantain lily, shasta daisies, daylilies, black-eyed Susans, hydrangeas, big blue, tickseed, gardenia, hosta, rhododendron, carnations, sage, catmint, lilacs, hydrangeas—and more surprises on the way.
It’s nature’s encore, and I’m here for every petal of it!

Even though we’re well into fall the roses keep giving beautiful blooms in spite of losing most of their leaves. These yellow beauties cut from the garden for a minimalist bouquet hanging from a mirror

I don’t know the name of this flower but I chose this bouquet above all the others because of this spiked beauty. Mama nature sure does replicate herself like only she can—this looks like the land version of the sea urchin, doesn’t it? So I’m naming her the urchin flower 😀

Last year, my hydrangeas didn’t bloom. That was disheartening for a new gardener—wondering what I did or didn’t do. I shared this with you and received suggestions on what to do differently. I followed your advice and made the necessary changes.
As spring began unfolding this year, I watched the hydrangeas like a hawk. When the first flower heads appeared, relief washed over me—affirmation that my attention to their care at the start of the season was worthwhile.

The garden is coming alive! I am most anticipating the hydrangeas. Last year they didn’t bloom but this year I’ve tilled the soil, fertilized and expecting great blooms.
The sunflower may deceive you—it’s not a typical flower. Its petals, seemingly floral, are, in fact, disguised leaves, adopting a yellow hue to allure pollinators. Upon closer inspection, what you perceived as the flower is an intricate outline concealing numerous beautiful and delicate flowers, harmoniously aligned in nature’s geometry. Each small flower carries within it a multitude of sunflower fields in golden dust—a phenomenon termed infloration in biology. 🌻

Shabbat Shalom everyone. Last week started a “Dear God” post—“how do I know”. I think the first step to knowing is being in a frame of mind to listen and to hear and that comes from a state of gratitude. Today is another “Dear God” post and it’s a simple prayer of gratitude.
First, a throwback to the welcome post of this blog where I shared why this site is called “createdbydeesign”. I genuinely believe that EVERY creative insight and EVERY word I’ve strung together to form EVERY art that I have ever written or formed, have been offsprings of God’s creativity.
God is the source of all creativity and all art. And it’s from His creation and creative wonders that I draw inspiration.
I mean, it can’t get more obvious than ART being smack dab in the middle of eARTh.
God could have made earth black and white and we’d have never known. That would be truly bland. Can you imagine earth without art, that would just be “eh”.
Who but a genius artist could think of, design, then create extraordinary flowers that look exactly like animals, aliens, humans, fairies and other strange creatures.

When I saw these beautiful wildflowers while walking through the park, I reflected on Jesus’ parallelism between God’s care for wild flowers and God’s care for us.
Why do you worry? Look at the wildflowers of the field and how they grow. They don’t work, they don’t make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. If God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, He will most certainly care for you. Don’t worry, have faith!
So we’re under a nor’easter with heavy snowfall. It’s cold but what a warmth in my heart this orchid is generating. She’s the first bloom of the season.
This golden ray of sunshiny beauty adorned my table at a restaurant recently. A beautiful part of the decor that enhanced the dining experience. Hope it brings some sunshine to your day today especially if you’re in colder climes.

Smack dab in the middle of the concrete jungle that is NY City appears this rainbow array of floral splendor which stopped me dead in my track. I grabbed my trusty iPhone to capture this photo. It’s deserving of its own Haiku.
Presenting MsFoxglove, fashionably adorned in a lavender-polka-dotted-glove-like ensemble taking the 1st place award for the “most delicate” in the garden.
Reflecting on how wonderful it was to have a garden (my first). Thank you garden, you blessed me immensely this spring to summer and heading into autumn you’re still giving vibrant offerings.

So this was from early in the season but I’m already nostalgic for spring/summer. Here’s to pretty pink Azalea—pretty by nature. I hope she brings some joy to your day.

Update: thanks to botanist extraordinaire, Eliza Waters, I now know the “coral flower” is really Cockscomb Celosia. It does resemble a cock’s comb, doesn’t it. It’s amazing how nature mimics itself.
They are an exquisite combination of class and elegance, adding beauty to any space.
It took me awhile to get the hang of keeping orchids alive and getting them to rebloom. Now that I have, I find so much joy in ‘raising’ my orchid babies.
I hope these bring a little joy to your day today.
