Perfect in this Moment ©Dawn Minott

Sitting here with you

Brings back memories of days gone by

Being in your presence comforts me

Takes my mind on exotic vacations

Summer-blazing sunshine, crystal-blue oceans, white-sand beaches

Mother Nature pregnant in her perfection

You my darling — you’re God’s greatest creation

Beautiful in imperfection

What a joy and a blessing

Just sitting here with you

Perfect in this moment

Autumn’s Return: A Blogger’s Revival ©Dawn Minott

Two weeks have passed, my blog did rest
For a summer break well-needed, it was the best
No posts, no words, no comments seen
But now I’m back with my writing machine

I missed the interactions, y’all a blogger’s delight
Sharing stories and thoughts be it day or night
Summer’s warmth is fading, leaves will soon fall
A writer’s inspiration anew, answer the blogging call

The crisp air of autumn, a new season’s start
Brings fresh ideas to my creative heart
I’ll craft my posts from sceneries about
In this colorful season, a muse, no doubt

So here I am, rested, revived, renewed
To share thoughts in words in gratitude
As fall paints the world with hues awe-inspiring
Us creatives, let’s craft words, our stories retelling

Words Stitched in Alliance ©Dawn Minott

In the realm where words take flight
They weave a tapestry bold and bright
When stitched together, thread by thread
They craft masterpieces where dreams can be read

An alliance of verses harmoniously blend
They unite heart’s symphony, emotions transcend
Words possess the power to heal
They bridge divides, make hearts feel

Stitch words in alliance loud and clear
In the tapestry words create, hold life dear
Stitch them with love, impart them with grace
They breathe life into alliance, they leave lasting trace

Afterword: I took up Sami on the 10 word challenge—stitch, then saw Fandango’s one word challenge—alliance. Both words formed an harmonious dance in my mind and out flowed “Words Stitched in Alliance”.

Pay Day© [A Haibun]

She recalled her dead mamma’s words: “Child, if you run from something you’ll run from everything. There are some things you gotta fight for. Some battles God fight for you and others He fights through you”. Her mamma’s words—palpable and empowering—stayed on replay till she found her fighting strength. Emboldened.

Bags packed in waiting
Drunken footsteps approaching
Today is goodbye

Today is pay day. The ritual has been the same. This started in May. May 15th to be exact. She remembers it, and each episode thereafter, as vivid as it was yesterday though it’s been three years, two months, one week, 14 days. Yes, she’s been keeping track of pay day ‘cause that’s when it happens. Today she stood. Today she fought. Today she left. Today the ritual ended.

Who’s In Your Corner? [with audio]

👆PLAY👆 Listen and read along

Life is a fight. A good fight. We go through the extremes—the ascent of ups and the declivity of downs. Though we don’t choose what we go through in life, we can choose how we go through it and who we go through it with.

One thing fighters have is a corner—fighters get support—they don’t fight alone.

We are not meant to be alone.

So, who are you going through life with?

You need others to help you, and you need to help others.

Who is in your corner?

Your “corner” is your support system. And your support system is built on relationships.

Yes it’s a risk. Relationships are messy. They’re complicated. You could get hurt. But, you can minimize the risk by building a support system that is solid.

What does a solid support system look like? It’s one that is:

  • Based on the right or a common structure. What brought you together (sorority, same age kids)? Are you likeminded? Do you have common values and principles?
  • Formed before your crisis.
  • Built on honesty. Can you be vulnerable and not feel judged? Can you be you?
  • Centered on TRUST. Distinguish between who’s in your circle versus who’s in your corner. Can and will they keep you accountable?
  • Built around fellowship. How can one know how to support you or celebrate you if you don’t share? Bring your life into the light. However, be selective. With the right people you’ll find fellowship.

Flower of the Day Challenge #8: Orchids

I LOVE orchids!

They are an exquisite combination of class and elegance, adding beauty to any space.

It took me awhile to get the hang of keeping orchids alive and getting them to rebloom. Now that I have, I find so much joy in ‘raising’ my orchid babies.

I hope these bring a little joy to your day today.

Thanks to Cee for hosting the Flower of the Day prompt. Also contributing to Fandango’s One Word Challenge, today’s word is combination.

Birthdays

I love my birthday for two reasons:

  1. The more I have, the longer I live 😹
  2. The celebration of life which always includes a scrumptious cake

The last two birthday celebrations have been low-keyed but I still marked them with scrumptious and delectable delights!!!

Love Fell On Me©

Euphoric ascension in love FALLING

Eyes locked in indepth soul searching

Conversations unending

Hearts in unity flip-flopping

Each passing moment lingering

More of you and more of me unfolding

You’re for me I’m for you revealing

Soul to soul connecting

With no words conversing

Deeper into love FALLING

After-word: LOVE, a denizen of the heart, is a powerful emotion! In the early stages it’s like all rational thoughts are hijacked, isn’t it?! It’s no coincidence it’s referred to as falling—it’s euphoric.

In response to Sheryl’s Your Daily Word Prompt, denizen; and Fandango’s One Word Challenge, falling.

The Bridge

Caught on the bridge when the earthquake struck, Desmona clings to lose cables, her body dangling precariously above the field of debris scattered across the sea below. Marshaling all her strength, she pulls herself up when suddenly the cable…

Cliffhanger. Yes, I know I’ve left you dangling (pun intended😊). That’s ‘cause I’m writing for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt—the word is marshal, the length 39 words. Also for Author World image and title, the bridge; Fandango’s One Word Challenge—field; and Ragtag Daily prompt—scattered.

Love Does Not Hurt©

Before-word: There’s a difference between accepting someone with and in spite of their faults and accepting their bad attitude or abusive behavior. Love is meek but in its quiet-gentle-submissive nature there is NO room for abuse.

Loving you

Accepting you

All of you completely

In your quirkiness, your shortcomings, your flaws and all

Leaves no room for

Abuse with words or actions

In love there is meekness, kindness, gentleness, patience and there’s even forgiveness

In love there is NO HURT

Deception Over Love: A Short Story

Delilah exhaled in exacerbation. Exhausted, and left with no more words of defense, she stomped out angrily into the court yard.

Pacing aimlessly back and forth, muttering to herself:

“How can they say these things about me?”

“I did this for my people!”

Caught up in ruminating, Delilah didn’t see the crowd growing about her in the courtyard. Her inner castigating jolted to a halt when Martha, who was always jealous of her relationship with Samson, screamed vehemently at her:

“You did this to him! You evil, conniving little witch!”

Delilah felt the extremity of Martha’s hatred and disgust.

“Out with his eyes! Out with his eyes!”

Turning in the direction of the angry mob, Delilah dashed back into the inner court, forcing her way through the crowd that had thickened around Samson. She got to Samson just as the soldier who had given her the small red drawstring purse with 30 pieces of silver, extracted his second eye.

Blinded by loyalty over love, she had blinded the man of her affections. There was no way to redeem herself from this deception. Martha was right to bring this calumny against her.

This piece is a contribution to Fandango’s One Word Challenge. Today’s word is “impervious”.

“Impervious” made me think of bullying and the power of words to destroy contrasted with the fortitude and resilience of nature. Especially a duck—i.e. water off duck back—that can be emulated in empowering a child (or anyone who’s the target of a bully) with skills of bounce-back-ability.

Fake It Till HE Makes It

It’s the wee hours of the morning and sleep has evaded me. My thoughts are somewhat lucid and I want to write. In search of motivation to direct my thoughts, I went to Fandango’s One Word Challenge and the word today is “lucid”.

We’ve all heard and may practice the old adage “fake it till you make it”.

But what if we fake it till HE makes it!?

I mean: not to fake being something or someone we’re not, but to put on what we already are when we feel least like it knowing that as we are growing in Christ we are being renewed after His image.

What might this look like?

  • To love on a loved one even when you don’t like them in that moment?
  • To forgive, to apologize, to take the first step in healing a broken relationship?
  • Or when you’re feeling unloved or unwanted to know that you’re priceless, that you are loved and this “season” will pass?

The possible life experiences where we can practice this are endless and worth a try till we get the outcome we desire, don’t you think??

I guess I only needed to get this thought out there in the “bloggasphere” for now sleep has returned to suspend my consciousness.

The Climb. The Zenith. The Cairn.

One thing that’s kept me sane and connected throughout the pandemic is being in green open spaces.

Mother’s Day was spent hiking in the wonderful Palisades Interstate Park. Running up leaf-covered hillsides, balancing across water-logged walk paths, conquering rocky terrains, swinging from trees in carefree abandon—my inner child came out to play.

The changes in scenery dynamically alter between water and woodland with idyllic spots along the way, enough to lull your mind into that state of perfect happiness—nirvana.

And then there was the climb

—steep and winding up the mountain.

Absolutely worth the ‘burn’ for the reward of picturesque views from the zenith.

At the mountaintop is the Women’s Federation Monument.

The castle-like structure overlooks the river with great views in all directions.

A climb up the stairs to the second floor…

… gives even greater views of the city far far below.

To complete the perfection of the hike, a 10-week old corgi named Luna took a liking to me.

I said a prayer along the way …

… and left a small marker—the cairn. Three stones built atop a boulder—each stone symbolically saying: “I Am Here”.

Ode to Yoga: Focus©

Written for today’s Fandango One Word Challenge: focus #FOWC

Unending lists of things “to-do”, less check marks on the side

Moving hither, moving thither, all around is stimuli

Linking breath with motion, getting present in body and mind

Breathing-in-breathing-out, finding equilibrium

Finding mountain, finding drishti, meeting palms at center of heart

Pressing foot into inner thigh, extending hands toward the sky

Centering concentration, gazing at non-moving point

Honing focus

Standing tall, posing still, in tree
