In the midnight sky, a heart consumed
Since you’ve been gone, there ain’t no sunshine bloomed
Tears dry on their own, as truth hurts so
Unbreak my heart, if love won’t come again, still I’ll grow

Sorry, tell that boy, bye, we’re never getting back together
But thank you, next, for guiding me to what matters
Nothing compares to you, someone like you
Yeah someone that I used to know, memories withdrew

Love is a losing game, yet I know I will survive
With every heartbeat, I’m a hundred percent sure I’ll thrive
To the left, to the left, you’re not irreplaceable
Go your own way, loving you wasn’t right or plausible

Seems I was born to run, I don’t belong to anyone
‘Cause if you’re under him, you ain’t getting over him, it’s done
Don’t speak for our relationship’s course
For in the end, I’ll shake it off with unwavering force

Afterword: The artists too numerous to list but did you spot a line or two of any of your favorite songs?! This will be a song lyric week—poems drawn from the titles or themes of songs from the R&B genre.

  1. Girl, you are a musical mix master! 🎶 I hollered when I read this line: “Sorry, tell that boy, bye, we’re never getting back together.” Oh no, not the never getting back together! LMAO 😝🤣😜 Sistah, what am I going to do with you? That mind of yours never stops does it? 😲 Hugs and smooches! 😘
