December Is…

… Christmas Tree decorating!!!

Decorating is another of my passions. December means CHRISTMAS and its the season for my biggest inspirations. I start with the tree and however it turns out that design element carries through the rest of the Christmas decor for the space I’m curating. This Christmas tree design is done to fit an Afro-chic interior motif.

Interior Decor #3: AfroChic —Zulu Isicholo Hats

There are many courses/paths/directions one can take in making a home feel homey and inviting. Key is pulling your space together in an intentional way. A purposeful design is one where the story of the space is told aesthetically.

Combining style, decor trends and culture to create this entryway space was one way to tell the story of this home. What do you see? What story does this evoke in you?

Here’s the story: This wall hanging of Zulu-hats-turned-wall-decor was curated to create an AfroChic space. The owner lived in Africa, including South Africa. The Zulu hats (or Isicholos) originate from Kwazulu Natal, the powerful Zulu nation of South Africa. These hats are traditionally worn by married women for ceremonial celebrations. Because the accent color is red, choosing these hats was also an intentional way to pull the space together.

And voila! An Afrochic space was curated. What do you think?

Interior Design & Decor #2: Stacking Books Stylishly

Decor doesn’t have to be extravagant or gaudy to make a statement. Here’s an abstemious tip to add a bit of flair to your interior decor:

Why just stack your books on a coffee table or the bookshelf?

Add a glass pot with succulent plants (a terrarium) OR add a piece like this mother and child over-ledge figurine and voila … you’ll transform the look and step up your decor!

Interior Decorating #2: Christmas Tree Makeover

I love decorating, period! It’s one other medium of my creative self-expression.

I especially love decorating for Christmas; and, my number one most favorite part is decking the Christmas tree. I love it so much the tree often stays up way past the “acceptable” time.

Christmas Tree

Only this year I thought: why not keep the tree up and extend my decorating joy all year long. And voila! So was born the valentine-tree© followed by the spring-tree©.

Valentine-tree

Lord knows we need to create joy in all the ways we can to counter the negativity of this pandemic.

Spring-tree

Decked with paper flowers, butterflies, dragonflies and Easter eggs, the tree was transformed into a wonderful world of spring indoors. It’s a welcoming place to sit and enjoy a cup of tea or to read.
